The Mimetic Impulse Readings, Session 2

Meeting 2 of “The Mimetic Impulse” is coming up on Sunday, December 8, at 6 pm. Jan Tumlir and Jeffrey Stuker, who are leading the group, have suggested that we read two essays by Roger Caillois: “Mimicry and Legendary Psychasthenia” and “The Praying Mantis.” A third recommended text is a short review by Walter Benjamin of an exhibition of Chinese paintings at the Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris. All of these texts can be downloaded as PDFs from the Dropbox folder posted below, which also contains a few letters between Benjamin and Theodor Adorno that discuss Caillois, in case anyone is interested in checking them out:

Hope to see you there!
